Split by square footage

Room Size Rent Splitter

Split rent fairly based on bedroom square footage. Perfect for roommates with different room sizes — no more arguments about who's overpaying for a cupboard.

How It Works

Three steps to a fair rent split.

1

Enter the total rent

Type in your monthly rent — in any currency. The calculator handles the rest.

2

Choose your method

'Bedrooms Only' splits purely by size. '50/50 Method' splits half equally (common areas) and half by bedroom size.

3

Enter each room's size

Add the square footage of each bedroom. The calculator works out each person's fair share instantly.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Which method is fairest — Bedrooms Only or 50/50?
It depends. Bedrooms Only is fairest when common areas are identical for everyone. The 50/50 Method is often preferred because it acknowledges that everyone benefits equally from the living room, kitchen, and bathroom, while still rewarding smaller bedrooms with lower rent.
What units should I use for room size?
Square feet or square metres — just be consistent. The calculator works on ratios, so the actual unit doesn't matter as long as everyone uses the same one.
Should I include en-suite bathrooms in the size?
Yes — if a bedroom has its own bathroom, adding that square footage to the room size is a fair way to account for the extra private space.
Can I use relative sizes instead of exact measurements?
Yes. If you don't know the exact sizes, enter relative numbers that reflect the proportion (e.g., 3, 2, 1 for large, medium, small). The ratios will still work correctly.
