Restaurant bill splitting

Tip + Tax Calculator

Split restaurant bills fairly — with tip presets, US/UK tax modes, and weighted splits for when someone ordered twice as much as everyone else.

How It Works

Three steps to split the bill fairly.

1

Enter the subtotal

Type the bill total before tip, and choose whether tax is already included or needs to be added.

2

Set tip and diners

Pick a tip percentage (or enter a custom amount), then add each person's name and weight.

3

Calculate and share

Hit Calculate to see each person's share, then copy the breakdown to send to the group.

Weight = 1 for equal shares. Use higher weights for people who ordered more.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What does "weight" mean?
Weight lets you adjust each person's share proportionally. Weight 1 = equal share. Weight 2 = double share. So if one person ordered twice as much as everyone else, give them weight 2 and everyone else weight 1.
What's the difference between UK and US tax handling?
In the UK, prices on menus include VAT — so tax is already in the subtotal you enter. In the US, sales tax is added at checkout on top of the menu prices — select "Tax added at checkout" and enter the rate for your state or city.
Does the tip apply to the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
The tip is calculated on the subtotal (before tax). This is the standard approach in most countries — tip on the food and drink, not on the government's tax.
Can I enter a fixed tip amount instead of a percentage?
Yes — enter any amount in the custom tip field. This overrides the percentage preset.
Is my data saved?
No — everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server.
