❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Which bills are most affected by working from home?
Heating and electricity are the biggest factors — home needs to be warm all day, and laptops, monitors, and lights run for 8+ extra hours. Internet usage also increases. Water goes up slightly due to extra tea breaks and toilet trips. Standing charges (council tax, TV licence) are generally split equally regardless.
By WFH Days vs Hybrid — which is fairer?
By WFH Days is most accurate if your bills are entirely usage-driven. The Hybrid method is often preferred because it acknowledges that some costs (standing charges, base internet speed) benefit everyone equally — only the variable usage portion is split by WFH days.
What if one person never works from home?
Enter 0 days for them. In By WFH Days mode, they'll pay nothing toward the bill. In Hybrid mode, they still pay 50% of the equal portion, which covers standing charges and shared baseline usage.
Can I enter half days?
Yes — enter 0.5 for a half day. The calculator accepts decimals for WFH days.
How much does WFH actually add to bills?
Research from energy providers suggests full-time home working adds roughly £500–700 per year to household energy costs in the UK. This calculator helps make sure that's paid by the person who causes it.
